Woodbury Corporation Brings Energy Efficiency to University Place and Its Headquarters
- Solar Panels Will Save More Than 70,000 Pounds of Greenhouse Emissions, and LED Light Fixtures Will Result in 66 Percent Energy Savings at University Place
- $1.4 Million Solar Power Project Complete at Headquarters on Parleys Way
SALT LAKE CITY (February 8, 2016) – Woodbury Corporation, a full-service real estate development company, today announced that it has completed an environmental renovation project designed to bring more energy efficiency to University Place in Orem, Utah. It has also completed a $1.4 million solar panel project on the roof of its main offices near the mouth of Parleys Canyon in Salt Lake City, Utah.
At University Place, Woodbury Corporation partnered with Hunt Electric, a full service design- build contractor that specializes in electrical infrastructure, and solar design, installation and commissioning. Hunt installed over 100 SunEdison 320 Watt solar panels, as well as over 7,500 linear feet of electrical infrastructure to enable future development. By converting a portion of energy use to solar energy with the construction of this 35-kilowatt array, University Place will reduce its greenhouse emissions by more than 70,000 pounds annually.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to improving the communities we build in, we know how important it is to be better stewards of the environment,” said Luke Woodbury, director of architecture for Woodbury Corporation. “The energy enhancements we’ve made to University Place will have far-reaching effects, and we will continue to look for ways to reduce our environmental impact—not only at University Place, but with future projects as well.”
In the interior of the buildings on the property, 926 light fixtures were changed to LED fixtures, which will result in 66 percent energy savings every year. Additionally, onsite sumps were installed to better process storm water, permanently reducing the volume of asphalt parking lot storm water running into Orem’s storm sewer system by almost 20 percent.
At its main headquarters, Woodbury Corporation recently installed a 1,080 panel photovoltaic solar power system that covers most of the roofs of the buildings at 2733 and 2735 Parleys Way – making it one of the largest PV systems on any office building in the Salt Lake Valley. This solar energy plant will reduce CO2 by over 336,000 pounds per year which is equivalent to saving nearly 6,000 trees.
